€192M Financing Gives Terralayr Fresh Capital to Expand Battery Storage Portfolio
Terralayr, a developer and operator of grid-scale battery energy storage systems, has secured €192 million in financing to accelerate the expansion of its storage portfolio and energy flexibility platform across Europe.
The funding will support the rollout of large-scale battery projects and further development of Terralayr’s integrated model, which combines asset ownership with a platform enabling third parties to access storage capacity without owning physical infrastructure.
The company positions itself as an energy flexibility provider, offering services to utilities, grid operators, power traders and large energy consumers seeking to manage volatility in increasingly renewable-heavy power systems.
Founded in 2022, Terralayr has built a pipeline of battery storage projects in Germany, where demand for flexibility has increased as intermittent generation places greater strain on the grid. The company aggregates both its own assets and third-party systems, aiming to optimise dispatch and revenue generation across multiple market uses.
The raise comes amid rising investment in battery storage across Europe, as policymakers and market participants look to address grid congestion, price volatility and system balancing challenges. Terralayr said the new capital will enable it to accelerate construction, expand its platform capabilities and scale operations in core markets.
By focusing on flexibility as a service rather than asset ownership alone, Terralayr is seeking to establish a role in the evolving energy storage landscape, where digital platforms and large-scale infrastructure are increasingly intertwined.
