Nayax buys Lynkwell to push deeper into EV charging software and payments
What's the deal? Nayax has acquired Lynkwell, an AI-powered electric vehicle charging software platform, to expand its payments and management capabilities in the fast-growing EV charging market. The deal brings Lynkwell’s charging network management, payments, and energy optimisation tools into Nayax’s global commerce and payments platform for unattended retail.
Lynkwell, which operates mainly in the US, serves charge point operators, site hosts, and fleet owners. Nayax says the acquisition will let it offer an end-to-end solution that combines charging operations, payments, loyalty, and data.
Why now? EV charging networks are scaling quickly, and operators are under pressure to improve uptime, pricing, and user experience while managing energy costs. Software that ties together hardware, payments, and analytics is becoming a must-have rather than a nice-to-have.
For Nayax, the move accelerates its push beyond vending and kiosks into new verticals where unattended payments and recurring usage are central. Acquiring an established platform is faster than building one from scratch.
What could go wrong? Integration risk is the main challenge. Blending Lynkwell’s software with Nayax’s existing systems without disrupting customers will take careful execution.
The EV charging market is also highly competitive, with hardware makers, utilities, and pure-play software companies all fighting for share. Price pressure and fragmented standards could limit margins.
The signal: The acquisition shows how EV charging is converging with fintech and enterprise software. Payments, data, and energy management are becoming as important as the chargers themselves.
It also reflects a broader trend of infrastructure software consolidation, as larger platforms buy specialised tools to offer full-stack solutions and lock in long-term customers.
