The Nordic Web’s Neil Murray Closes $6m Fund III to Back Early Nordic Founders

The new vehicle, The Nordic Web Ventures III, reinforces Murray’s focus on small, first-cheque investments across the Nordics, a strategy he has pursued for more than a decade from his base in Copenhagen.

Murray first became known through The Nordic Web, a blog and data project he started after moving to Denmark with no background in the local tech scene. By systematically tracking investments, exits and emerging companies across the region, he built a following among European and US venture firms seeking early insight into Nordic startups. That work gradually evolved into angel investing and, later, the launch of a dedicated fund.

Since then, Murray has backed more than 50 companies as one of their first investors. His early portfolio includes Sanity, the Norwegian content management platform, and Lovable, an AI coding company now valued at more than $1.8bn, which he entered with a $50,000 angel cheque.

Several founders he has previously supported have also returned as limited partners in the new fund, reflecting the close relationships he has built with early-stage teams.

Fund III is deliberately modest in size. Murray has said the $6m scale allows him to stay aligned with founders and investors, rather than pursuing larger funds driven by fee growth. The fund will typically write cheques of around $200,000, often leading or helping to assemble small pre-seed rounds that allow founders to build quietly before engaging with larger venture firms.

Operating as a solo general partner, Murray positions himself as a hands-on first investor, focusing on product direction, early hiring and helping founders shape their fundraising strategy. His approach reflects a broader belief that disciplined, small funds can play a critical role in developing the Nordic pipeline, particularly at a time when early-stage capital has become more selective.

With Fund III now live, The Nordic Web continues its evolution from a data-driven media project into a specialist early-stage investment platform, aimed at identifying and supporting Nordic founders well before their companies attract wider international attention.
