Norrsken Chooses Amsterdam for Its Largest Impact Hub Set to Open in 2026

Swedish impact organisation Norrsken is set to open a new hub in Amsterdam in 2026, marking its most significant expansion in Europe to date. The new Norrsken House will be located in the Van Gendt Hallen on Oostenburg Island, a former industrial complex close to the city centre, and is expected to host around 1,000 startup employees across several floors.

Founded in Stockholm in 2016 by Klarna co-founder Niklas Adalberth, Norrsken supports technology companies that aim to address societal challenges, including climate change, healthcare, food systems and social inclusion.

Its model combines non-profit, mission-driven startup hubs with a group of for-profit venture funds, while keeping the physical houses focused on community building, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The Amsterdam hub will join Norrsken’s existing locations in Stockholm, Barcelona, Brussels and Kigali, and will be its largest so far. The space will include work areas, meeting rooms and shared facilities, as well as public-facing elements such as a restaurant.

Startups will be admitted based on their mission rather than their sector or stage, with the aim of creating a dense network of founders, investors and experts working on impact-oriented technology.

The project is being co-financed by a group of Dutch investors, including Bugaboo co-founder Eduard Zanen, Peak Capital and investment vehicle De Hoge Dennen, alongside a multi-million euro subsidy from the municipality of Amsterdam. City officials have described the public contribution as a long-term investment in innovation and social value, rather than a bid for direct financial returns.
