FABBS Secures Top Prize with AI-Driven Battery Lifespan Innovation

FABBS, founded in Eindhoven and born from a student team, presented a system that monitors and controls individual battery cells using AI-driven algorithms, rather than relying on passive balancing. Their technology seeks to redefine battery management by actively redistributing energy between cells, thereby maximizing usable capacity, extending lifespan up to double, and enabling second-life applications for discarded EV packs.
The competition, hosted under the auspices of the province of North Brabant and the AI Pitch Competition platform, had selected eight finalists from a broad Dutch AI-startup field. The jury praised FABBS for its strong business case, technical depth and potential for real-world impact in the energy and storage sector.
For FABBS, the win signals not just recognition, but momentum — at a time when the energy transition demands smarter use of resources, the company is poised to scale its solution in markets such as station-ary storage, electrified mobility and battery refurbishment.
