Fireflies.ai Reaches Unicorn Status with New Perplexity Partnership

Fireflies.ai is an AI meeting platform that functions as an automated assistant during conversations. It is used by people at 75% of Fortune 500 companies and more than 500,000 organizations worldwide. The platform records, transcribes and analyzes meetings, and allows teams to search, review and reuse information discussed on calls. It is positioned as an “AI teammate for meetings,” with a focus on collaboration, documentation and access to meeting content across an organization.

The company has reached a valuation of over $1 billion following its first tender offer. The transaction provides liquidity to long-serving team members and follows a period in which Fireflies has reported profitability since 2023, triple-digit year-over-year growth and no primary capital raised since 2021. Fireflies reports serving around 20 million people globally.

Fireflies has also announced a strategic partnership with Perplexity to integrate real-time web search into meetings through a feature called “Talk to Fireflies.” This voice- and text-activated assistant works across Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams in more than 60 languages. Users can say “Hey Fireflies” or type “/ff” to ask questions, access web search results or query the current meeting for information such as key decisions or discussed topics. The feature is available to all users, including those on free plans.

As part of the partnership, Fireflies and Perplexity are offering cross-promotional Pro and Enterprise trials to each other’s customers. Fireflies has also outlined plans to develop additional capabilities, including AI voice agents that can attend meetings on a user’s behalf and expanded search across a customer’s meeting database.
