The new facility will expand Lilly’s capacity to produce oral medicines across cardiometabolic health, neuroscience, oncology, and immunology, supporting its rapidly growing global portfolio. The site will integrate advanced technologies such as automated material flow, digitalized production systems, and spray-dried dispersion processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and scalability.
The investment will create 500 highly skilled jobs in manufacturing, engineering, and laboratory operations, as well as 1,500 construction jobs during development. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, pending final approvals and permits.
Located in the Leiden Bio Science Park, the site will position Lilly within one of Europe’s most dynamic life sciences ecosystems, offering strong links to academia, research institutions, and established industry partners. The facility will also strengthen Lilly’s European supply chain, enabling more localized and resilient production for global markets.
This expansion adds to Lilly’s existing European network, which includes sites in France, Ireland, Italy, and Spain, alongside recent investments in Germany and Ireland. It forms part of the company’s broader global manufacturing strategy, which includes new facilities underway in Texas, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.
The project reinforces Lilly’s long-term commitment to advancing innovation, supporting sustainable manufacturing, and meeting rising global demand for its medicines through a more flexible, diversified supply network.
