Electra Nabs $183M to Rewrite the Playbook on Rare Inflammatory Disease

Electra Therapeutics has announced the successful closing of a $183 million Series C round to accelerate its clinical and pipeline progress in immune-related diseases. The round will primarily fund the SURPASS pivotal Phase 2/3 trial , which recently began dosing patients with ELA026 , a treatment for secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH) —a rare and life-threatening hyperinflammatory condition. The candidate has already received FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation and EMA Priority Medicines (PRIME) Designation , underscoring its potential as a transformative treatment.

ELA026 works by targeting SIRP , a receptor involved in the overactivation of myeloid cells. This novel approach may offer a faster-acting and more targeted treatment than existing immunosuppressants, potentially filling a critical gap in a disease with high mortality and few therapeutic options. Early data showed that ELA026 helped reduce inflammation and rescued platelet counts in sHLH patients, supporting continued development in the pivotal stage.

Beyond sHLH, Electra aims to expand ELA026 into other autoimmune and inflammatory indications , further leveraging its SIRP biology platform. The Series C funding will also support ELA822 , Electra’s second pipeline asset, which is poised to enter the clinic and extend the company’s reach into broader immunology. With this financing, Electra solidifies its position at the forefront of novel immune-modulation strategies.

Investors in this round include Nextech and EQT Life Sciences, with Thomas Geninatti, Ph.D. (Nextech) joining the board and Christoph Broja (EQT) appointed as an observer. The infusion of capital and expertise positions Electra to push forward with its pipeline while pursuing regulatory milestones and long-term impact in underserved patient populations.
