Nscale Strikes $14bn Microsoft Deal and Prepares IPO
In just 18 months, Nscale, a British start-up specialising in AI-focused data-centre infrastructure, has grown from inception to one of Europe’s most closely watched technology companies.
Founded to provide large-scale computing capacity for artificial-intelligence firms, Nscale develops, owns, and leases data-centre space equipped with advanced graphics-processing units (GPUs) to meet surging demand for AI model training.
The company recently signed a landmark agreement with Microsoft to supply and deploy around 200,000 Nvidia GB300 chips across its facilities in the United States and Europe, including new sites in Texas and Portugal.
The deal, estimated by the Financial Times to be worth up to $14 billion, builds on an earlier arrangement through Nscale’s joint venture with AkerDealroom has a profile for this one. Nscale’s ascent reflects a broader transformation in technology infrastructure, as AI adoption fuels unprecedented demand for high-performance computing and energy-efficient data capacity. If its momentum continues, the company could emerge as a major European counterpart to the U.S. hyperscale operators powering the next generation of artificial intelligence.
