Nvidia-Backed Lila Aims to Reinvent Science with $550M War Chest
Lila Sciences is building what it calls a “scientific superintelligence” platform: combining AI models, robotics, and autonomous lab infrastructure (their “AI Science Factories”) to autonomously generate hypotheses, run experiments, learn, and iterate. The ambition is to transform the scientific method itself, enabling breakthroughs across life sciences, materials, chemistry, and more. Founded in 2023 via Flagship Pioneering, the company emphasizes generating proprietary experimental data rather than relying purely on existing datasets.
Earlier this year, Lila closed a $235 million Series A , co-led by Braidwell and Collective Global , bringing its total disclosed capital raised to ~$350 million. The round pushed the company into “unicorn” status with a valuation exceeding $1 billion. With the new funds, Lila has expanded laboratory space and announced plans for further hubs in Boston, San Francisco, and London.
In October 2025, Lila announced an $115 million extension to its Series A round, which included participation from Nvidia’s venture arm . This latest investment pushed the company’s post-money valuation to over $1.3 billion , and raised its total capital raised to about $550 million.
The extension also supports Lila’s plan to scale its “AI Science Factories” and infrastructure. The company has secured a new 235,500-square-foot lab facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts—one of the largest lab leases in the area this year. It intends to commercialize access to its platform, offering enterprise clients in energy, semiconductors, diagnostics, and drug discovery the ability to use its autonomous science stack.
