Base Power’s mission is to modernize how electricity is stored and distributed across the country. Instead of relying solely on centralized utilities, the company installs battery systems in homes, creating a network of distributed energy storage. Homeowners gain reliable backup power and can sell excess electricity back to the grid, while the collective network helps stabilize demand and reduce strain on aging infrastructure.
To support this expansion, Base Power is building its first factory in downtown Austin , on the site of the former Austin American-Statesman printing press. The facility will manufacture batteries and power electronics domestically, marking a step toward the company’s goal of reindustrializing energy infrastructure in the U.S. The startup also recently qualified for Texas’s Aggregated Distributed Energy Resource program , which allows its aggregated batteries to sell power directly to the grid—an important milestone for scaling its model nationwide.
CEO Zach Dell describes the effort as a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to rebuild the energy system. With its new funding and manufacturing capacity, Base Power aims to make decentralized, clean, and resilient power a reality for millions of American homes.
