It’s happening: Standard Life new default fund brings venture capital to pension savings
Standard Life is launching Future Opportunities , an alternative default fund for pensions that will allocate up to 25% to private assets including private equity, real assets, infrastructure, private debt and venture capital, marking a major step in bringing private markets into mainstream UK pensions.
Future Opportunities also incorporates Standard Life’s “Sustainability Improvers” labelling.
For the majority of members who remain in default funds, the launch represents an opening of access to asset classes traditionally reserved for institutions.
The fund is underpinned by Future Growth Capital, a private markets investment manager established with Phoenix Group and Schroders, and allocations will ramp gradually over three to five years, driven by the availability of high-quality assets, while the remainder of the portfolio continues to draw on listed equity, fixed income, UK property and liquid alternative.
