Nvidia’s £2B play to crown a UK AI giant
On the day after a major announcement concerning Intel, Nvidia has just announced another investment, of £2 billion, to catalyze the UK’s AI startup ecosystem, working with venture capital firms Accel, Air Street Capital, Balderton Capital, Hoxton Ventures and Phoenix Court to invest into Wayve, Nscale, Oxa, Revolut, PolyAI, Synthesia, Latent Labs and Basecamp Research.
The plan combines equity stakes and infrastructure, including a £500 million commitment to cloud provider Nscale and a proposed $500 million strategic investment in autonomous driving startup Wayve.
The chipmaker aims to address bottlenecks in compute, energy costs and funding access, while rooting its strategy in hubs like London, Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester.
Nvidia’s UK push coincides with state visits and broader US–UK tech alignment. President Trump’s London stopover was marked by AI investment announcements from Microsoft, OpenAI and others, and Prime Minister Starmer hailed Nvidia’s move as a “major vote of confidence” in Britain’s technology base.
CEO Jensen Huang described the UK as in a “Goldilocks moment,” where universities, startups and supercomputing converge, and predicted that the UK’s first trillion-dollar company will be an AI business.
The investment builds on Nvidia’s existing partnerships, including Wayve’s embodied AI platform for driverless mobility, which already runs on Nvidia hardware. More than 120,000 of Nvidia’s processors will be deployed in the UK by Nscale and CoreWeave, underpinning AI workloads from startups to giants like OpenAI.
