DX Joins Atlassian in $1B Deal to Measure Developer Productivity
DX started with a simple idea: the way companies measured developer productivity was broken. Counting tickets, commits, or hours never told the full story of how software actually gets built. So the team created a platform that blended data with feedback from engineers themselves, showing not just what got done, but where work slowed down and how teams felt about it.
The approach quickly gained traction. After coming out of stealth in 2022, DX tripled its customer base year after year and signed more than 350 enterprise clients, including GitHub, ADP, Dropbox, Block, and BNY Mellon. Even more striking, the company managed this growth while raising less than $5 million, a rare level of capital efficiency in enterprise software.
Now Atlassian is acquiring DX in a $1 billion deal . Nearly 90% of DX’s customers already rely on Atlassian’s tools, so the integration is a natural fit. With DX inside its ecosystem, Atlassian can close the loop for companies: pinpoint productivity bottlenecks and act on them within the same suite of products. The deal follows the purchase of The Browser Company and signals a broader strategy. As AI reshapes workflows and engineering budgets grow, Atlassian is positioning itself as the platform where organizations both measure and manage how work gets done.
For DX, this marks the beginning of a new phase. What started as a lean and scrappy startup now gains the reach and resources to scale its vision globally, helping companies see not just how much work gets done, but how it happens—and whether new tools, especially AI, are truly delivering value.
