Somos Internet Lands $18M to Scale Proprietary Fiber Technology in Colombia
Somos Internet, a Medellín-founded connectivity startup, has raised US$18 million in a Series A round to expand its fiber-optic network in Colombia. The round was led by Union Square Ventures, known for backing high-impact technology companies, alongside Ribbit Capital, an investor in some of the world’s most prominent fintechs. The fresh capital will help the company accelerate its rollout in Bogotá, expand hardware production, and strengthen its engineering capabilities.
The company differentiates itself through a vertically integrated model that combines proprietary hardware and software with its fiber infrastructure. Its in-house router, Orb, and management platform, Artemis, allow Somos to deliver high-speed internet at competitive prices, offering an alternative to established players in Colombia’s connectivity market. This combination of custom technology and infrastructure aims to bring more reliable and accessible broadband to households and businesses.
Beyond infrastructure, Somos is also working to build a broader innovation culture around hard tech in Latin America. As part of Colombia Tech Week, the company is launching Lightfinders, an event designed to highlight advancements in hardware, data centers, and physical infrastructure. For founder Forrest T. Heath, the investment marks a step forward not just for the company’s growth, but also for positioning Colombia as a hub for next-generation connectivity solutions.
