SUN Mobility expands to Africa and the Philippines, pushing global EV battery-swapping footprint
Indian electric mobility company SUN Mobility is accelerating the global rollout of its battery-swapping infrastructure, backed by a recent $50 million funding round led by Vitol. The company is extending its modular, interoperable energy platform to emerging markets in Africa and the Philippines.
SUN Mobility designs and operates swappable battery packs and cloud-connected Smart Battery Swapping Stations that cut charging times and reduce upfront costs for electric two- and three-wheelers. Its integrated platform includes mobile apps and fleet management tools, offering a practical solution for cost-sensitive regions.
In Nigeria, SUN Mobility partners with Sahara EV Limited to deploy battery-swapping stations in Lagos and Ibadan, supporting the shift to electric vehicles amid rising fuel prices and pollution concerns. In the Philippines, the company signed an agreement with the Department of Energy to enable local manufacturing and nationwide deployment of its technology, aligning with the government’s push to electrify public transportation.
With this expansion and fresh capital, SUN Mobility aims to provide accessible, scalable electric mobility solutions that address infrastructure challenges and advance sustainable transport across the Global South.
