WME

Consumer Services · Beverly Hills, United States · Founded 1898

Global entertainment that agency represents artists and content creators across books, digital media, film, food, music, television and theater MoreLess

In 1995, agents Ari Emanuel, Rick Rosen, Tom Strickler, and David Greenblatt left their established roles to form their own talent agency, Endeavor. It quickly developed a reputation for being aggressive and ambitious. Fourteen years later, in a move that shook up the Hollywood landscape, the fast-growing Endeavor orchestrated a merger with the century-old William Morris Agency in 2009. The combination created a new powerhouse: William Morris Endeavor, or WME. The deal was structured more like a takeover, with Endeavor's leadership, including Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, taking charge of the new entity. But the ambition didn't stop there. In 2013, with backing from private equity firm Silver Lake, WME acquired IMG, a major player in sports and fashion, for a reported $2.3 billion. This acquisition transformed WME from a talent agency into a global entertainment, sports, and content company. The parent company was eventually rebranded as Endeavor. After a failed attempt in 2019, the parent company, Endeavor Group Holdings, successfully went public in April 2021, raising approximately $511 million in its IPO. This milestone solidified its position as a diversified giant in the media and entertainment industry, owning assets ranging from the UFC to the Miss Universe pageant.
