A 2002 spin-out from the University of Warwick's School of Engineering, the company was founded based on the research of Professor Duncan Billson and Professor David Hutchins, who co-invented the core technology. This success established the brand's reputation for audiophile-grade performance. Building on this, the company has transitioned its technology to the automotive sector, which is now its main focus. Its business model involves securing development contracts with automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and transitioning them into large-scale commercial production agreements. In June 2023, the company announced its first major production contract with a luxury vehicle manufacturer for two vehicle programs.

The company is headquartered in Nuneaton, UK, at the MIRA Technology Park, a hub for automotive innovation. It is led by CEO Dr. Mike Grant. Warwick Acoustics has secured significant investment to scale its operations, including a £7 million funding round in April 2024 led by Mercia Asset Management and NFU Mutual to establish a new manufacturing facility.
