In 1976, a company was founded in Portland, Oregon, to tackle a significant problem in the construction industry: the lack of integrated software to manage complex projects. This company, initially known as Coaxis, would become Viewpoint. For years, it focused on developing a suite of tools to help contractors manage everything from financials and resource management to project operations. The goal was to connect the office with the job site, integrating accounting, project management, and field operations. The company's growth accelerated significantly in the new millennium. A key moment arrived in 2014 when private equity firm Bain Capital made a major investment, acquiring a majority stake for $230 million. This partnership was designed to fuel Viewpoint's global expansion and enhance its product offerings for a growing customer base. A pivotal chapter in the Viewpoint story was written in 2018. Trimble, a major player in technology for industries like agriculture and transportation, announced it would acquire Viewpoint for $1.2 billion in an all-cash transaction. At the time, this was the largest deal ever for a Portland-based tech company. The acquisition positioned Trimble to offer a comprehensive set of digital tools for the entire construction lifecycle, combining Viewpoint's contractor-focused software with Trimble's existing solutions. Today, as part of Trimble, Viewpoint continues to provide software that helps construction companies manage their projects, people, and profits.
