Thorium Space S.A. is a Polish company founded in 2017 by Paweł Rymaszewski, who serves as the CEO and CTO. Rymaszewski, an expert in GOVSATCOM and MILSATCOM programs, has approximately 25 years of experience in the space industry, having worked with major global satellite operators like Eutelsat. The concept for Thorium Space originated from his 18-year tenure in satellite control centers, identifying a need for more flexible and modern telecommunication solutions.

The company specializes in developing advanced satellite communication systems, focusing on next-generation telecommunication payloads and satellite terminals. Its core technologies include digital beamforming (DBF) and active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas that operate in the Ku, Ka, and E frequency bands. Thorium Space designs and produces its own microwave integrated circuits (BFIC) for these systems and claims to be the only European manufacturer of BFIC chips that can serve two independent beams simultaneously. This vertical integration allows the development of proprietary chipsets, which the company states are two generations ahead of competing products.

Thorium Space serves both civil and institutional sectors, including telecommunications, aerospace, maritime, public administration, and defense. The business model involves providing hardware such as satellite terminals (like the Aurora and Ares lines), communication payloads for satellites, and SATCOM chipsets. In November 2023, the European Space Agency (ESA) selected Thorium as the prime contractor for the HummingSAT program to design a SmallGEO satellite and develop a digital Ka/Ku band payload for Poland's first national telecommunications satellite. The company has raised a total of $1.01M in funding over two rounds, with investors including Smartlink Partners, Leonarto, and TERRA seed.
