About Soho House

Soho House & Co. operates as a global private membership platform connecting a diverse group of members across physical and digital spaces. Founded in 1995 by Nick Jones, the first Soho House opened above his restaurant, Café Boheme, in London as a private members' club for individuals in the film, media, and creative industries. Jones, who began his career in catering at 17, identified an opportunity to offer a different kind of hospitality experience. His dyslexia contributed to a challenging school experience, but he found his passion in creating environments where people could connect and enjoy themselves.

The company's business model is primarily centered on membership fees, which provide access to a network of exclusive clubs known as 'Houses'. These Houses, located in major cities across North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia, serve as the cornerstone of the member experience, offering spaces to work, socialize, and network. The target clientele consists of professionals in creative fields, entrepreneurs, and individuals with high disposable incomes who value exclusivity and a curated community. Membership tiers include 'Soho House' for global access, 'Cities Without Houses' for creatives in cities without a physical club, and 'Soho Friends' for access to bedrooms and events. Revenue is generated through three main streams: membership fees, in-house revenues (from food, beverages, and bedrooms), and other revenues, which include the Soho Home retail brand and standalone restaurants.

Over the years, Soho House has expanded its offerings significantly. In 1998, Jones acquired and rebranded Babington House in Somerset as a hotel and private members' club. This was followed by the first international expansion to New York in 2003. The company has since diversified into spas, cinemas, workspaces (Soho Works), and a retail line of furnishings and accessories called Soho Home, launched in 2016. The parent company, Membership Collective Group (MCG), went public on the New York Stock Exchange in July 2021, raising $420 million. However, the company initiated a process to return to private ownership, completing the deal in early 2026 with backing from investors including MCR Hotels. As of late 2024, the company had over 270,000 members and a waitlist exceeding 112,000. The company continues its global expansion with new Houses planned for locations like Tokyo, Los Cabos, and Palm Springs.
