Sicona Battery Technologies was founded in 2019 by entrepreneur Christiaan Jordaan and materials scientist Andrew Minett. The company is based in Australia and was established after the acquisition of research into a novel material concept for battery anodes.

Sicona's primary product is a proprietary silicon-carbon (SiCx) anode material designed for use in lithium-ion batteries. The use of Sicona's SiCx material can improve the energy density of lithium-ion batteries by more than 20%, which translates to a longer range for electric vehicles and extended life for consumer electronics. Additionally, the technology allows for faster charging times.
