Q-Factor
Scalable neutral-atom quantum computing hardware.
About Q-Factor
Q-Factor is a Tel Aviv-based startup developing a full-scale quantum computer based on neutral atom technology. Founded in 2026, the company emerged from stealth in April of the same year with a $24 million seed funding round. The financing was led by NFX and TPY Capital, with participation from Intel Capital, Korea Investment Partners, Deep33, and the Matias family, supplemented by a grant from the Israel Innovation Authority.
The company was established to commercialize decades of foundational research in atomic physics and quantum computing conducted at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and the Weizmann Institute of Science, both of which are shareholders. Q-Factor's founding team consists of four prominent physicists: Professor Nir Davidson, a world-renowned authority on ultracold atoms and former dean of physics at the Weizmann Institute; Professor Ofer Firstenberg, an expert in quantum optics and Rydberg atoms from the Weizmann Institute with a background at Harvard and MIT; Professor Yoav Sagi of the Technion, a leading authority in neutral-atom manipulation; and Dr. Guy Raz, a physicist with 20 years of technical leadership experience at multiple deep-tech startups.
Q-Factor's core technology focuses on neutral atoms, which are manipulated by lasers in what is known as "optical tweezers". This approach offers advantages over other quantum computing modalities, such as superconducting qubits or trapped ions, because neutral atoms are naturally stable, can maintain quantum information for extended periods, and do not require extreme cooling or complex wiring. The primary challenge the company aims to solve is scalability. While current quantum computers are limited to a few hundred or thousand qubits, Q-Factor has designed a new architecture to overcome existing bottlenecks and scale systems from thousands to over one million qubits. This breakthrough is intended to achieve "quantum advantage," the point where quantum machines surpass the capabilities of classical supercomputers for commercially valuable applications in fields like drug discovery, financial modeling, and weather forecasting.
