PURIS

The business model is built on a complete end-to-end supply chain, starting with the development of proprietary, non-GMO pea seeds. PURIS partners with a network of over 400 U.S. farmers, providing them with seeds and then buying back the harvested crops. These pulses are then processed into key ingredients, including pea protein, starches, and fibers. This structure provides traceability and control over the entire production process, from farm to finished ingredient. The company generates revenue by selling these ingredients to a diverse client base that includes global food manufacturers, consumer packaged goods companies like Beyond Meat, and emerging food brands. Additionally, PURIS has a consumer-facing brand, AcreMade, which produces plant-based foods such as egg substitutes.

Significant milestones in the company's history include a strategic joint venture with agricultural conglomerate Cargill, which invested an initial $25 million in 2018, followed by an additional $75 million in 2019. This capital infusion enabled PURIS to more than double its production capacity by acquiring and retrofitting a 200,000-square-foot facility in Dawson, Minnesota. Now led by the second generation of the Lorenzen family, with daughter Nicole Atchison as CEO of PURIS Holdings and son Tyler Lorenzen as CEO of PURIS Proteins, the company continues to expand its footprint in the plant-based market.
