Mint.com was a personal financial management service that operated in the United States and Canada, enabling individuals to manage their finances from a single online platform. The company was founded in 2006 by Aaron Patzer. Patzer, who holds degrees in computer science and engineering, was motivated to create Mint after experiencing personal frustration with the complexity of existing personal finance software like Quicken. He spent seven months developing the initial version of the product before securing over $31 million in venture capital from firms including Shasta Ventures, First Round Capital, and DAG Ventures.

The platform provided users with a consolidated view of their financial lives by aggregating data from various accounts, including bank accounts, credit cards, investments, and loans. This allowed users to track their transactions, monitor spending patterns by category, create budgets, and set financial goals. Key features included a free credit score monitoring service, alerts for unusual spending or upcoming bills, and a net worth tracker. The service was provided free to consumers. Mint.com generated revenue primarily through a lead-generation model, earning referral fees from financial institutions when users signed up for recommended products such as credit cards, loans, or investment accounts. The platform also earned revenue from targeted advertising.

A significant milestone occurred just two years after its public launch when Intuit Inc. announced its agreement to acquire Mint.com for approximately $170 million in September 2009, a deal that was finalized in November 2009. At the time of the acquisition, the platform had already attracted 1.5 million users. Following the acquisition, Patzer became the vice president and general manager of Intuit's personal finance group, and Mint's features were integrated with Intuit's own products, like Quicken. By 2016, Mint reported having over 20 million users. However, in late 2023, Intuit announced the shutdown of Mint, effective March 23, 2024, encouraging users to migrate to its other financial product, Credit Karma.
