Metawave Corporation, founded in 2017 by Maha Achour, Bernard Casse, and Sandy Godsey, is a developer of advanced sensing and perception solutions for the automotive and telecommunications industries. The company spun out of the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) with the goal of commercializing smart beamsteering antenna systems. CEO and founder, Dr. Maha Achour, has over two decades of experience in the RF, wireless, and optics industries, having previously co-founded Rayspan, a company that commercialized the first Metamaterial antennas. Co-founder Bernard Casse, who served as CTO, brought a decade of experience in commercializing fundamental science and leading research in metamaterials.

Metawave's core business revolves around developing high-performance radar platforms for autonomous vehicles and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), as well as wireless solutions for 5G telecommunications infrastructure. The company serves automotive manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, and telecommunication companies. Its business model includes selling its hardware products, such as radar modules and beamformer chips, and licensing its associated software and AI platforms. To date, Metawave has raised over $60 million in funding from strategic investors including DENSO, Toyota, Hyundai, and Infineon Technologies.

The company's flagship automotive product is SPEKTRA, an imaging radar platform that utilizes analog beamforming technology. Unlike traditional radar systems that struggle with either range or resolution, SPEKTRA is designed to provide both long-range detection (up to 300 meters) and high-resolution 3D/4D imaging, enabling it to distinguish between objects in various weather conditions. This is complemented by the AWARE™ AI platform, which uses machine learning for real-time object classification and tracking, telling the radar where to focus its attention. For the telecommunications market, Metawave develops the MARCONI™ 77GHz and POLARIS™ 24GHz beamformer chips, along with TURBO active repeaters and KLONE passive reflectors, which are designed to extend and enhance 5G millimeter-wave coverage efficiently.
