Laigo Bio

Laigo Bio is a biotechnology company developing therapies for oncology, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases by pioneering a targeted membrane protein degradation platform. The company was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands. It originated from a collaboration between the Oncode Institute and Argobio Studio, a biotech start-up studio, based on the foundational research of Professor Madelon Maurice from UMC Utrecht. Maurice, a co-founder and the company's Principal Investigator, is recognized for her work on Wnt signaling and the role of membrane-bound E3 ligases in cancer.

The firm's core technology is its proprietary SureTAC™ platform, which engineers bispecific antibodies to remove specific disease-causing proteins from the cell surface. This approach creates a proximity between a chosen target protein and an E3 ligase on the cell membrane, which tags the target for destruction through the cell's natural lysosomal degradation pathway. This method allows for the elimination of targets previously considered "undruggable" and aims to achieve a deeper, more sustained inhibition of disease pathways compared to traditional therapeutic approaches. The business model involves advancing its proprietary programs through preclinical development before seeking collaborations with pharmaceutical partners for clinical trials and commercialization.

Initially, Laigo Bio's pipeline focused on oncology, with programs targeting PD-L1, VEGF, and a Wnt-pathway receptor. The company has since expanded its scope to include immunology, with candidates for autoimmune diseases and graft rejection. In December 2025, Laigo Bio announced it had secured €11.5 million in a seed financing round co-led by Kurma Partners and Curie Capital. Other investors included Argobio Studio, Angelini Ventures, Eurazeo, the Oncode Bridge Fund, ROM Utrecht Region, and Cancer Research Horizons. This funding is intended to advance its oncology programs towards clinical development and accelerate the discovery and development of its immunology candidates. The company is led by CEO Dr. Matthew Baker.
