About Keek

Initially launched as Keek in 2011, the platform was a pioneering social network for sharing short 36-second video updates, predating other popular short-form video apps. Founded in Toronto, Canada, by Isaac Raichyk, Keek allowed users to post "keeks" and reply with video "keekbacks," growing rapidly and attracting millions in venture capital. At its peak, the service registered 250,000 new users daily and was the top video app in 18 countries. Facing funding challenges in late 2013, the company went public through a reverse takeover.

In October 2016, Keek was rebranded as Peeks Video, shifting its focus to live-streaming and social commerce. Under the leadership of CEO Mark Itwaru, the new Peeks Social platform enabled content creators to monetize their broadcasts through various features. The business model revolved around real-time transactions, allowing viewers to tip broadcasters with actual cash, contribute to crowdfunding campaigns, or pay for exclusive access to streams. Peeks earned revenue by taking a percentage of these user transactions.

The platform also integrated an affiliate marketing program, enabling creators to earn commissions from brands. In 2020, parent company Peeks Social Ltd. announced a name change to Personas Social Incorporated. By August 2024, Personas sold the Peeks Social platform to Mii.TV Inc. to refocus its efforts on the original Keek app, which had been retooled and relaunched. The strategy for the revived Keek app is to capitalize on its established global user base and target markets where competitors like TikTok are restricted.
