Intelligent Fiber Network (IFN), now part of Zayo Group, operates as a key regional provider of fiber-optic connectivity solutions. The company was originally formed as Indiana Fiber Network in March 2002, established by a consortium of 20 local Indiana telephone exchange companies and one rural electric cooperative. This unique ownership structure provided a stable financial and technological foundation, with some parent companies having histories spanning over 100 years. In September 2018, the company rebranded to Intelligent Fiber Network to reflect its growth and expanded focus beyond its legacy partnerships and Indiana's borders.

A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by Zayo Group Holdings, Inc., which was announced in March 2021 and finalized on June 1, 2021. This transaction integrated IFN's dense regional network into Zayo's extensive North American and European infrastructure. The acquisition added over 5,000 route miles of fiber to Zayo's network, which included on-net connections to nearly 1,000 enterprise buildings in key Indiana cities such as Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and South Bend. Prior to the acquisition, IFN's network consisted of more than 4,500 route miles across over 70 Indiana counties.

IFN's business model centers on providing high-speed fiber-optic backbone capabilities. Its clientele is diverse, encompassing telecommunications providers, enterprise customers, hospitals, schools, financial institutions, and government facilities. The company specializes in delivering services to the healthcare and education sectors, supporting applications like telehealth, high-speed medical imaging, and distance learning initiatives. The core service offerings include fiber transport, dedicated internet access, and colocation services. These services are delivered over a state-of-the-art Ethernet network, providing the necessary infrastructure for data-intensive operations and secure, reliable connectivity.
