About HYKE

HYKE, also known as Hydrolift Smart-City Ferries AS, develops zero-emission, electric, and autonomy-prepared ferries to address urban congestion and pollution. The company was established in 2019 as a spin-off from the Norwegian innovation and industrial design powerhouse, Eker Group. This initiative was born from a collaboration with the city of Fredrikstad, Norway, which sought to modernize and reduce the costs of its centuries-old ferry service.

HYKE's core offering is a complete waterborne mobility system, featuring the 'Hyke Shuttle,' a 50-passenger vessel designed for efficiency and sustainability. These ferries are built from the ground up as electric vehicles, enabling over 12 hours of continuous operation on a single charge and consuming 85% less energy than diesel counterparts. The vessels are constructed from lightweight composite materials and feature rooftop solar panels to supplement power. Charging is facilitated through the universal CCS standard used by electric cars, allowing for easy integration with existing infrastructure, as well as automatic wireless charging at docks.

The business model centers on providing this integrated system to clients such as municipalities, local ferry operators, and urban developers. By making water transport economically viable and environmentally sound, HYKE aims to shift a significant portion of urban mobility and logistics back to underutilized waterways. The ferries are equipped with autonomous technology, including auto-docking and auto-crossing capabilities, which can reduce operational costs by up to 50% and enhance safety. While currently operated with crew, the vessels are designed to transition to fully autonomous or remotely guided operations in the future. The company has launched a successful pilot project in Fredrikstad and is expanding into Asian markets like the Philippines and Singapore through a partnership with Seagull Pte. Ltd. for manufacturing. The company is led by CEO Halvor Vislie.
