Elorian

Elorian is an artificial intelligence startup founded by veteran AI research scientists Andrew Dai, formerly of Google DeepMind, and Yinfei Yang, previously with Apple. The company is focused on developing native multi-modal AI models capable of simultaneously understanding and processing text, images, video, and audio to interpret and analyze the physical world. This core technology, known as visual reasoning, is considered a significant step toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Andrew Dai, who serves as CEO, spent 14 years at Google and was a co-lead for the pre-training data work on the Gemini model. Yinfei Yang, a former research scientist at Apple, brings expertise in multi-modal representation learning. Their combined experience from leading AI labs has attracted significant investor attention. The company was recently in discussions to raise a seed round of approximately $50 million, with Striker Venture Partners, a fund started by former CRV general partner Max Gazor, expected to lead the investment.

Elorian's approach differs from models that add visual capabilities to a text-based foundation; it aims to build models that directly perceive the logic of the physical world through vision, much like humans. While robotics is a potential application, the company's vision extends to the broader market of AI agents. These agents could perform complex tasks by understanding a graphical user interface (GUI) to handle processes like reviewing documents or operating software without needing direct API integration.
