About Blue Star Fusion
Blue Star Fusion (蔔蓝恒星), operating through the legal entity Beijing Weilanhengxing Technology, is a Chinese private-sector nuclear fusion startup founded in August 2025 by Xu Runlai, a University of Oxford graduate who studied stellarators during a PhD at Princeton University. The company pursues the stellarator route to magnetic confinement fusion, focusing on plasma physics, superconducting magnets, engineering systems and device integration. It has built an in-house AI platform including a coil optimisation tool called NextOpt, and has run current-carrying tests of a high-temperature superconducting model coil reaching a maximum magnetic field of 10.3 Tesla.
