Back Check is an online, self-contained reference and compliance check service. The platform is designed to increase the transparency and accuracy of the hiring process by verifying candidate information. It allows companies to obtain information about a candidate's past work performance from former supervisors and colleagues. The service verifies the identity of respondents through ID image uploads, aiming to provide reliable and rapid reference reporting. Back Check performs over 10,000 checks annually and has a significant market share in Japan, particularly within the IT, consulting, and financial sectors.

The service was developed by ROXX, Inc., a company founded in 2013 by Taro Nakajima and Yamada Hiroki while they were students at Aoyama Gakuin University. ROXX, originally named RENO, initially focused on new graduate recruitment support before launching other HR-related services. As the Japanese recruitment market shifted towards mid-career hiring, ROXX introduced Back Check as one of the first SaaS solutions for reference checks in the country. In August 2025, it was announced that the HR tech company En-Japan would acquire 100% of Back Check from ROXX for approximately JPY 1.9 billion ($13.3 million). Following a spin-off from ROXX, Back Check is expected to become a consolidated subsidiary of En-Japan.
