Alphawave IP

Alphawave Semi (formerly Alphawave IP Group) is a Toronto-founded semiconductor company specializing in high-speed wired connectivity IP, custom silicon, and chiplets used in data centers, AI infrastructure, networking, and data storage. Founded in 2017, the company licenses DSP-based, multi-standard connectivity silicon IP to chipmakers and also designs custom application-specific chips, following its 2022 acquisition of SiFive's OpenFive custom-silicon business. Alphawave's technology helps data travel faster and more reliably between chips while consuming less power, positioning it as critical infrastructure for AI and hyperscale computing. In December 2025, US chipmaker Qualcomm completed its roughly $2.4 billion acquisition of Alphawave Semi, folding the company's connectivity and custom-silicon expertise into Qualcomm's data center business as part of its push beyond mobile and PC processors into AI compute infrastructure.
