Adaptix is an Oxford-based company developing mobile and affordable 3D medical imaging solutions. Founded in 2009 by Mark Evans and Gil Travish, the company aims to replace conventional 2D X-rays with a more accurate, low-dose, and portable alternative. Mark Evans has over two decades of experience in medical imaging with companies like Siemens Healthcare, while Dr. Gil Travish is an expert in field emission with over 20 years of academic research experience. In July 2023, Adaptix was acquired by Avingtrans.

The company's core technology is a proprietary Flat Panel X-ray Source (FPS) that uses an array of small, cold cathode field emitters to generate a 3D image through a process called Digital Tomosynthesis (DT). This method provides greater diagnostic depth than 2D X-rays by creating cross-sectional image slices, but with a significantly lower radiation dose than traditional CT scans. The technology digitizes the X-ray source, enabling the creation of compact, lightweight, and less expensive systems that can be used at the point of care, such as at a patient's bedside or in smaller clinics.

Adaptix serves multiple markets, including medical, veterinary, and industrial non-destructive testing (NDT). Its first medical product, a portable system for imaging extremities like hands, elbows, and feet, received FDA 510(k) clearance in the U.S. in January 2023. The company also offers products for veterinary and NDT applications, with plans to develop systems for dental and chest imaging. Its business model includes selling systems and offering a pay-per-study option to lower upfront costs for clients. Adaptix holds an extensive intellectual property portfolio with over 150 filed patents across more than 20 patent families, covering its X-ray source and image reconstruction tools.
