Explore the manager directory and fund records

Capital Desk lets you switch between the European Investment Fund and Bpifrance, filter their recorded managers, and inspect fund vehicles. Save managers, keep notes in your browser, and export your research as a CSV.

The demo uses saved API responses and needs no API key. It is a dated snapshot, not a live feed. Each LP has 12 saved full fund histories; the network also includes latest dated fund records for bubble sizing. Other full histories are labelled as not included. The Python example below produces a smaller research file: 12 managers selected alphabetically, with fund records since 2020.

The goal

Build a fund research file from an LP

A limited partner provides capital to investment managers. The API records those LP–manager relationships separately from the vehicles a manager raises. This workflow combines the two lists for research and keeps their evidence separate.

Keep the two relationships separate

The path name lp-funds can be misleading: each returned row is an investor firm with a UUID. Fund vehicles have numeric IDs. A manager’s fund size is not the LP’s commitment amount.

Resolve the LP by name and domain

Store DEALROOM_CLIENT_ID and DEALROOM_CLIENT_SECRET in a local .env file excluded from Git. The download exchanges them for a token and sends both required headers. Search results must match the name and website domain before the script selects a UUID.

Change --lp and --domain together for another institution. An ambiguous or missing match stops the script.

Retrieve the recorded managers

Advance the offset by the number of returned rows until the reported total is reached or a page is empty. Deduplicate managers by UUID. The script sorts the complete manager list by name and selects the first 12; this is an alphabetical sample, not an investment ranking. Set --manager-limit to change the sample.

Retrieve each manager’s fund vehicles

Paginate each manager’s response and deduplicate by fund ID. Retain the date, fund type, converted amount, native amount_source, closed status, and announcement source_url. The global GET /data/funds endpoint is an alternative when starting from fund vehicles across managers.

--since changes the date range; --currency EUR, USD, or GBP changes reported amounts. This example does not apply an amount filter: the API documents that filter against native fund amounts.

Show the LP’s network, sized by fund records

The network groups managers by headquarters country. Click a bubble to see the manager and its latest dated fund record without leaving the map.

For this view, fetch funds across batches of manager UUIDs with GET /data/funds. Follow every page, group records by manager.uuid, and select each manager’s newest dated record.

Keep a missing amount missing, even if an older fund has a known size. Hollow dots indicate no disclosed positive size; very small funds have a minimum visible dot size. Country-circle positions are for layout only, and headquarters are not investment destinations.

Use it in a research workflow

Run the queries on your server with your own credentials, store the responses with retrieval dates, and refresh them on a schedule. The demo’s saved managers and notes are browser-local; a shared research desk would need sign-in and database storage. Keep the announcement links so colleagues can check the evidence behind each fund record.

Read the records as research evidence

Recorded relationships may be historical or incomplete. An empty fund list means no records were returned for the selected window. It does not establish that a manager has raised no funds.

Fund size, LP commitment, assets under management, and available capital are different measures. Do not sum the displayed sizes and label the result as the LP’s exposure. Review each fund’s announcement source before drawing a fund-specific conclusion.
